Cover music

 Maybe it comes from having a cold and running a fever, but it suddenly struck me that no band that plays rock can become 'famous' by only playing cover tunes -- cover bands are marooned in the purgatory of only playing in local clubs and bars.

Jazz players _can_ become well known as 'interpreters' of other people's tunes, but a fair number of them also compose their own music.

It's the _classical_ musicians who can most easily become well known by playing 'covers' of music by other composers.
