The last time at DeSha's was one of the best times we've had playing -- and we've been playing LONG time! The reason the night was so enjoyable was because of you: many of you came and made the evening really special. It was great playing for an appreciative crowd!
Mind you, we're not certain what that says about your musical taste, but we were glad you were there, nonetheless.
And we're going to try it again this Saturday night! We'll be at DeSha's at at 11320 Montgomery Road/Harper’s Point, this coming Saturday from 7:30 to 11:00.
As you're probably aware, TOAST! made a big run in the just-completed MCAA Tournament (Musical Clowns Acting Asininely), where we were seeded 65th in the 64-band field. However, we made it all the way to the Finale Four, where we lost to Tickled Pink. Unfortunately, during that game, our big center and star player, Rick Hagee, fouled out in the third measure, when he was caught trying to add a 9th to a regular 7th chord. After that, our substitute, Dale Lewis, came on, but he was playing without his checked shoes or any socks at all (he said they were all counted and safe in their drawer at home), and thus was disqualified.
However, Tom Vogel and Mike Russell managed to play an up-tempo beat that kept Toast! in the game through the first ending and into the second chorus. Steve Leigh was, however, ineffective with his five string shots, blowing far too many notes and missing the second ending entirely . Tom Steele attempted to compensate by letting Steve use his capo on the bass, but then Tom was playing too far up the neck and choked, dropping the beat, which was recovered by Tickled Pink.
With only twelve notes remaining in the game, Tickled Pink drove toward the Coda. Steve Gallant gallantly tried to stop the charge, but they trampled right over his Iwi just as the horn sounded, and won the game in 5/4.
So... alas, though we're not the MCAA champions, we feel that we learned a lot as a musical team, and we're looking forward to Saturday night, where we'll start the new musical season.
So come on out this Saturday for the first chord, to be thrown out by someone from the audience. Hey, it could be you --which means you'd better be there!
See you Saturday evening at DeSha's!!
