My good friend [livejournal.com profile] davidbcoe has a new book out on January 20, THE HORSEMEN'S GAMBIT, Book 2 of the Blood of the Southlands series. The book is a follow-up to the excellent THE SORCERERS' PLAGUE. I'll be picking up a copy, and would suggest that you all do the same -- and pick up THE SORCERER'S PLAGUE too (Book 1 of the series), which is now available in paperback. David's not only a fine and interesting person in general, he's also an accomplished writer with a deft touch for characterization. His world is populated with people you care deeply about.

So go support another LJ writer with some of that holiday cash!

Three other friends have books out this month that I should mention -- January is obviously a good time for new books!

Jim Hines ([livejournal.com profile] jimhines) has out the first book in a new series based of fairy tales: THE STEPSISTER SCHEME -- Jim always does an excellent job of handling comedic material, which I know from sad experience is not an easy task!

Joshua Palmatier ([livejournal.com profile] jpsorrow) has the third of the throne novels, THE VACANT THRONE, out in paperback. I just had the pleasure of meeting of Joshua in Denver last summer, and this is a kick-ass series.

And lastly, S.C. Butler ([livejournal.com profile] scbutler) sees QUEEN FERRIS released this month, the second book of the Stoneways Trilogy.

Boy, I hope y'all got LOTS of gift certificates and cash this holiday season!

Roland Burris doesn't understand why people don't acknowledge that he's junior senator from the State of Illinois, after his appointment by the hirsute and embattled Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

"I didn't expect all this. I expected my qualifications, my commitment to the people of Illinois, that that would be the best choice the governor could make because I could hit the ground running. I could go in and begin to just learn the procedures and then be able to go to work with the people of Illinois."

If he really didn't anticipate the uproar and dispute, then perhaps he's not the best choice for Senator...
