Further thoughts on Palin

I'm beginning to wonder now whether Palin was as good a choice for McCain as I originally thought. The LA Times has an interesting article on the subject, which is worth reading. I noticed that the McCain campaign trotted out several interesting revelations on a day that was both a holiday and the day that a hurricane was slamming into the coast near New Orleans -- a day when those revelations are less likely to make headlines and will hopefully be buried before they can grow legs.

Been researching the AIP (Alaskan Independence Party) and Palin a bit.

The following is from the front page of AIP's website:

ALASKA FIRST!

Until we as Alaskans receive our Ultimate Goal, the AIP will continue to strive to make Alaska a better place to live with less government interference in our everyday lives.

The Alaskan Independence Party's goal is the vote we were entitled to in 1958, one choice from among the following four alternatives:

1) Remain a Territory.
2) Become a separate and Independent Nation.
3) Accept Commonwealth status.
4) Become a State.

McCain's campaign slogan "Country First" and "Alaska First" obviously don't work together at all, so I can see the issue if Palin were once a member. There are claims that Palin was a member of the AIP in 1994. However, the McCain campaign denies this.

In this country, you're innocent until proven guilty.

No one in the AIP seems to be able to come forward with hard evidence that yes, Palin was indeed a member, and here's the incontrovertible proof. There are people pointing to a YouTube video from 2008 where she welcomes the AIP to Fairbanks for their convention. Yes, she does say "I share your party's vision of upholding the constitution of our great state..." but that doesn't say she agrees with everything that's on the AIP website.

So, without further evidence to the contrary, this looks as if Palin = AIP may just be interweb hyperbole. So take that off the table. I think there's plenty of 'meat' still left up there to digest.
