Been Away...

I've been a bad boy this month, insofar as posting frequency. But I haven't much felt like posting. My mom (who is in her late 70s) has been in the hospital for the last week, and so I've spent a some time running over there and visiting with her and Dad, and then there's teaching, and writing, and... It's seemed like I haven't had time to work up a coherent post. (Not that I have a stellar record of doing such in the past, either...) There were a few times I could have ranted on politics (say, when will Gonzales resign) or writing (Scalzi for SFWA president!) or some other random topic, but while the interest was there the time wasn't, not if I wanted to get anything else done.

So: Mom has a case of viral pneumonia; at least that's the docs' best bet. She kept spiking high (104.6 was the highest) fevers, and was rather out of reality from the fever. Being a viral infection, antiobiotics pretty much do zip against it; it just had to run its course. But in the last few days, her fever's been down to fairly normal levels -- we're hoping she'll be discharged tomorrow or Friday.

So that's what's been going on in my life. What about you?
