Denise has a new man in her life.

So do I.

His name is Finnegan...

We were at Guy & Becca's annual Chilicon, which is threatening to become Cincinnati's largest convention. Becca pulled Denise aside at some point, taking her into the summer kitchen. Finnegan was there: a orange tiger tabby kitten, maybe four months old or so, who had come wandering into their yard that morning. Becca being Becca, she'd immediately checked the kitty's health, given it food and water, and isolated it. Denise immediately came and found me and made me go into the summer kitchen too. The kitten was gorgeous and incredibly affectionate. Denise and I looked at each other.

We'd been considering getting a second cat since Katy died, but weren't in a hurry to do so since we had Ana when we wanted our feline fix. However... "There are other people here who may want him," Becky said, "but you guys have first choice. He doesn't have fleas or ear mites, and he's a little scrawny right now, but he looks healthy. I'll take him up to the clinic next week and have him tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV and spay him, and you could have him all buffed and polished..."

OK, we said.

Becca did the due diligence and put ads in the papers and checked with the local vet offices: no one came forward to claim the kitten. So Becca took him up to her clinic in Dayton on Friday and did the deed. We took possession of Finnegan (as we'd named him) Monday.

Here he is, if you'd like to see him.

Right now, he and Ana are adjusting to each other, with Ana instructing Finn on how she is the Supreme Queen of the House and he needs to be properly subservient to her wishes. Finn is learning. Slowly. He's still incredibly affectionate -- he loves to be picked up and held and cuddled, and wants to be around us wherever we are. He still hasn't really met Tasha, our dog, yet, so he doesn't have the run of the house, but that'll come.

We're now outnumbered by our pets. Hmm...

Congratulations! His eyes have the look of an intelligent cat.

What a fine, fine looking cat. Congratulations!

Have you and Denise been outnumbered this way before? Hope so! I've found it can make for some Interesting Times....

Finn's a good looking cat.

Its been our experience that male cats show more affection than females.

How big is Chilicon these days?

Is it still held in Guy and Becca's back yard?

We've had two cats and a dog before (many times), but we always had children to balance out the human component of the household.

I'm sure the times will be Interesting...

Hey, I posted a cat picture and I wasn't even away from the blog! :-)

It is, and in Guy and Becca's house, and in the New Yard they've acquired next door, and out in the Back 40 where the tents are erected...

'Tis a fine brotherhood, indeed. Hope the hazing he's getting from our current Writer's Cat Ana isn't too awful...

I'm so glad the acquisition of Finnegan turned out well. He is just soooooo cute!

When he does, give him the early Bunnicula books. ;)

Note in case you have not read these: The books are *written* by a dog and his friend, Chester, the orange, book-reading cat.

Yay kitty!

Here's hoping that he is smarter than Soleil. :)

Congratulations on being owned by such a beautiful cat.

Watch out, next thing you know you'll have eight.

Perhaps I have more kharmic burden to work off. Or maybe we just have more abandoned cats around here and they all know our address.

In any case -- way to go.

John

Congratulations!

I am so happy that everything worked out well with Finn. I was reticent to ask Denise. I expected to see a general posting before now and I was so afraid Becca had found something amiss.

I will vouch for his generally lovely nature, excellent purr box, and all around handsomeness! His only drawback is a love of bacon and eggs.

Maybe he will not be the last Chilicon cat....but I believe he was the first.
