We have both our kids in the midst of moving. Up in Columbus, Megen is moving from the (rather rundown student housing) digs she shared with her two friends from college into an apartment with her friend Stephanie. Denise went up there yesterday and spent the day (and evening and much of the night) helping her unearth her things from the house and move them into the apartment.

Today, Devon's moving and I get to help him. Actually, since he's still on crutches from his surgery, I get to be Devon and replace him in the moving crew. Devon's moving from the house he shared with three other musicians into an old mansion that's been turned into apartments, with his friend Evan. Devon (of course) had the third floor bedroom in the old house, and he and Evan have the third floor in the new place.

Lots of old, narrow stairs in both places. Lovely.

Hopefully they'll both stay put for awhile this time. Maybe. Or at least next time arrange to move a few months apart rather than (just as they did last year at this time) move the same week.

Advil & Beer. Good combo. And yes, my calf muscles are nice and sore today from all that climbing-with-weights.

Been there....

My sister and I did that to my parents once. After that I decided that if I couldn't afford (semi-)professional help that I shouldn't be moving.

Labor day weekend was similar for us. Don had been planning for quite awhile to rip out his old bathroom when his oldest, Joe, announced that he and his wife Aimee were planning to paint the entire interior of their victorian rental starting Sunday. Don got the bathroom ripped out with little help from Dustin or me on Saturday. Joe and Aimee got the entire upstairs painted with much help from Don and me on Sunday. By Monday I was feeling it and so was Don. Joe, Aimee and Emeline move into the victorian this coming Saturday. I think I may have lucked out and got grill duty.
