Gakked from boing-boing, Here's an interesting chart of Apple's form factors from 1976 to 2007 -- a nice display of interesting computer design. Whether you like Apple or not, I think you must admit that the company's had a terrific influence on the shaping of computers and the way they interface with us.

What fun! My own personal Apple evolution (which hasn't actually gone very far!) was from the Centris to the first-generation iMac and from a 500 series laptop to a blueberry clamshell iBook. It's probably about time to upgrade again. :-)

As to upgrading... Well, yeah, the leading edge of technology has long passed by your blue clamshell, and the new MacBooks would blow you away with speed (and hard drive space) and whizzy new software, but hey, your clamshell still works, right? My G5 iMac is getting long in the tooth, technology-wise, but I don't see replacing it for awhile yet -- not that I wouldn't love a shiny new cutting-edge machine (probably a laptop, next time...), but I can't afford one right now...

The clamshell (aka Bluebelle) is holding up pretty well, although there's something dodgy with the power cord output (if that's the right word)--when I recharge, I have to put my Chicago Manual of Style on top of cord where it hooks in so that it remains in the right position to stay connected! Needless to say, this sometimes grows tiresome (especially when I'm away from home).

Finances allowing, I'm hoping to upgrade next year--but not very far. Since I will probably want something that can run both OS9 and OS10, I'm thinking of looking for a reconditioned iBook G4. That'll be easier on my budget, too. :-)
