Who's Responsible

Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] ysabetwordsmith: a chart by Chuck Spinney, a Reagan-era budget analyst, showing the presidents Truman through Bush II, and how the national debt either increased or decreased during their terms.

Which begs the question: why do Republicans say they're the ones who are fiscally responsible?

Silly man!

It's not what you do, it's what you say you do! Stop trying to confuse me with facts. Math is hard.

Anybody that says they can can raise farm subsidies, raise social security, raise medicare, fight two wars, and not raise taxes is just fine in my book.

"why do Republicans say they're the ones who are fiscally responsible?"

(a) Because that's what voters want to hear, and nobody in the so-called "news" media bothers to correct them.

(b) Because "fiscally responsible" means "making sure only the people who support us get government subsidies."

"Why do Republicans say they're the ones who are fiscally responsible?"

Are you really asking? Because it feeds into an already existing stereotype of fiscally irresponsible Democrats, and if you say something enough times people start to believe it.

Oh, and by the way, why do you hate freedom?
